Boy Scouts merit badge clinic

Eagle Mountain Fire Department is offering a Boy Scout Merit Badge Day Camp at the Eagle Mountain Fire Station No. 2 in the Ranches, 3785 E. Pony Express Pkwy., in two sessions with a morning track and afternoon track option.

The morning track has registration on Monday between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. with the first session the same day from 9 a.m. to noon. A CPR class will be taught from noon to 1 p.m.

Session two is Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon as well. For the afternoon track, registration begins Tuesday between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. and class goes from 1 to 4 p.m. the same day with the CPR class from 4 to 5 p.m.

The second session is Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. Each hour we will offer fire safety, emergency preparedness and first aid merit badges. You must attend both sessions to complete all the requirements to earn these three merit badges. In addition, attendance to one CPR class is required for first aid merit badge.

Please provide Scouts with signed Merit Badge Cards and ask them to complete all personal information (name, address, etc.). Tell them to bring note pads and pencils and their completed type and date sets of coins. Remind Scouts to wear their uniforms. Scout Leaders should provide a copy of this flyer to Scouts planning to attend the clinic so they can study the requirements. The theme for the January 2008 Y/N meeting & Scout Clinic was “GOLD”. It started with a trip to the Reed Gold Mine where everyone had the opportunity to pan for Gold. Many of the YN’s were able to bring home flakes of Gold they sifted from their sand and rock. We had a short class on gold and reviewed its history, composition, uses, and discoveries. Did you know that the first discovery of gold in the United States was on Reed Gold Mine property in 1799. January 2010 Our Boy Scout Coin Collecting merit badge class was a smashing success at the last show. Overall, we had 105 scouts from around the Orlando area participate in and complete all the requirements. I think we also had about 30 adults in attendance. Each scout received the Whitman Coin Collecting Merit Badge folder and every participant won a prize in our raffle. We had a lot of fun, played a little YN Trivia and talked about the new 2010 commemorative silver dollar, honoring the Boy Scouts of America, that will be coming out in February. Of course, without a doubt, I need to thank Mr. Jeff Swindling for helping me conduct the course. I would also like to thank the ANA for sponsoring a free six month membership to any scouts who completed the merit badge. Special Thanks to Tony Bonaro for acting as our Y/N instructor . Tony has conducted 15 Boy Scout / Girl Scout Merit badge programs, helping over 400 scouts to complete their requirements for the award. He has also conducted numerous presentations on coin collecting in our local middle schools in St. Johns, Florida. So let's give Tony a Huge THANK YOU for helping to educate our youth in the art of coin collecting.
