Get your fill of local outdoor concerts this weekend
This weekend offers plenty of opportunity to get outside and enjoy some live music, as there are four outdoor concerts taking place locally.
Gastonia Downtown Alive features The Spontanes and Black Image. The concert runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 10, and takes place at the Rotary Centennial Pavilion, at the end of South Street in downtown Gastonia. For more information, call 704-865-5044.
The upcoming Mount Holly Nights concert, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 10, on South Main Street in downtown Mount Holy, will feature The Catalinas.
At the U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway, Charlotte, this week’s Subaru River Jam will feature a performance by The Victor James Band. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, on the River’s Edge patio. Parking is $5 per car. For more information, visit www.usnwc.org.
And in Dallas, “Blues Out Back” returns to the Gaston County Museum, which will host the performance of Abe Reid as part of its 13th annual summer concert series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, on the lawn behind the museum. Reid is known for growling out old tunes and screaming the harmonica, as well as for his authentic finger picking style.
The free performance is sponsored by Dallas Express Pharmacy & CNC-KE.

Garden Hosts Third Worldwide Knit in Public Day
Knitters, crocheters and spinners are invited to the third annual “World Wide Knit in Public Day” at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12.
Beginners can learn basic skills, experienced knitters can explore new stitches and all can enjoy knitting and chatting with fellow enthusiasts. See and feel the latest in plant-based yarns or step outside to see “fiber sources” in action – sheep, alpacas and angora rabbits.
