Brookfield Magazine: Are We Still in Brookfield? Is This Route 7?

Alfonso DeMasi, the chef/owner of The Table restaurant, located the site of the former Bailey’s Backyard eatery that he had previously co-owned, said in an interview just after reopening at 640 Federal Road that “even though I’m just south of where the old bypass [Super 7 leg] and new extension intersect, some people don’t know that this is still Brookfield.” If you’re an old-timer (in terms of residence, not necessarily age!), you’ll probably remember that when Route 7 continued southward from New Milford it ran past homes and businesses down to the Four Corners intersection (with Route 25) and beyond to the intersection of Super 7, which travels southeast to I-84 and farther south breaks off to continue down to Norwalk. “There were lots of problems—they ran out of money, there was the frogs issue [an endangered species concern], and there were other things as well,” she said, referring to some of the hurdles of the federal-state project. “It’s been a long time coming, and where it is, it wasn’t meant to stop. It was originally thought to have an expressway right through to Massachusetts.” Alfonso DeMasi, the chef/owner of The Table restaurant, located the site of the former Bailey’s Backyard eatery that he had previously co-owned, said in an interview just after reopening at 640 Federal Road that “even though I’m just south of where the old bypass [Super 7 leg] and new extension intersect, some people don’t know that this is still Brookfield.” If you’re an old-timer (in terms of residence, not necessarily age!), you’ll probably remember that when Route 7 continued southward from New Milford it ran past homes and businesses down to the Four Corners intersection (with Route 25) and beyond to the intersection of Super 7, which travels southeast to I-84 and farther south breaks off to continue down to Norwalk. “There were lots of problems—they ran out of money, there was the frogs issue [an endangered species concern], and there were other things as well,” she said, referring to some of the hurdles of the federal-state project. “It’s been a long time coming, and where it is, it wasn’t meant to stop. Brookfield Magazine: Are We Still in Brookfield? Is This Route 7?

It's really no help that Route 7 at the northern end of town (the new bypass) is, when it continues in New Milford, called Danbury Road, as there's no prospect of getting to Brookfield's neighboring city to the south that way. So, where does Brookfield

Riehl World View: Brookfield City Results Were Reported Accurately ...

Kristine Schmidt, the clerk in the city of Brookfield, said in a separate interview that she shared the results with the news media on Tuesday night. She said she also sent the results twice to the county. After the first results were sent, she said county officials requested a second set of data because they wanted results tabulated in a certain format with fewer columns.

"We sent it to the county and called the county to make sure they got it," Schmidt said. Nickolaus explained that when she got Brookfield's results the second time in the correct format, she failed to save it. So when she totaled the results for the unofficial final report Tuesday night, Brookfield's total was not included.

Brookfield Gives Prosser Nearly 11K Votes

As expected, Brookfield city voters ran up a good turnout in the state Supreme Court race and gave incumbent Justice David Prosser nearly 11,000 votes. Unofficial, unaudited results showed 76 percent of city residents who voted picked Prosser, with 24 percent voting for challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.

That translated to a city voting turnout of about 53 percent, the city's second-highest for a spring election since 2001, but nowhere near the 79 percent turnout for the gubernatorial race last November.

"It's embarassing when the county you grew up in blew it that badly"

Likewise but differing. Waukesha is the most conservative county in WI, adjacent to the most corrupt and less than an hour from the most unhinged. This was justice, an honest mistake handing a cosmic bitch-slap to Dimmis.

The software package, assembling results from various municipalities, carried with it Bill Gates' propensity for error following a knee to the user's groin. Nothing more.

jim: " I find it hard to believe..."

What you find "hard to believe" is irrelevant.

The vote totals from Brookfield were reported to County Clerk.

The County Clerk, for whatever reason, failed to accurately capture the Brookfield numbers in her totals.

During certification on Wednesday, this discrepancy was noted and then checked out.

What's most amusing is that I was following the election via Althouses blog and at that time, late on Tuesday night, a number of commenters on that blog site immediately drew attention, in real time, to the large numbers of Waukesha precincts that were suddenly shown as "complete" with almost no change in the Waukesha county vote totals.
