We're in for another cool and cloudy day, the National Weather Service tells us, thanks to a cold front that moved in overnight. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the mid-60s, they say. Once the clouds pass on Thursday, however, it should be worth the wait. We're in for sunny skies Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 70s on Thursday and around 80 on Friday.

Clouds are supposed to return Friday night, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, although there should be a fair amount of sunshine, too. Plenty of sunshine is expected on Sunday, with a high around 80, but the outlook for Independence Day on Monday isn't quite as good. A mix of sun and clouds is likely, along with a chance of scattered showers.

A dozen applicants have come up with proposals to revitalize Buffalo's seven most seriously underperforming schools, and today a volunteer review panel will make recommendations on who should do what to which school. The ideas include Buffalo State College's plan to have faculty members give college-level courses at Lafayette High School and the Community Action Organization plan to to create all-boys and all-girls classrooms at Futures Academy and East High School.

Jennifer Buffett, the philanthropic daughter-in-law of billionaire investment wizard Warren Buffett, appears at 6 p.m. in Kleinhans Music Hall to discuss her international charity work on behalf of women and girls. She's the keynote speaker for the Western New York Women's Fund's annual "What She's Made Of" celebration. Her message? "Philanthropy has nothing to do with money. The root of the word is love of human beings," she says. "It's really important to give of our lives."

The Pride of Baltimore II, a reproduction of a 19th century topsail schooner, will cast thoughts back to the days of the Erie Canal when it glides up to the Central Wharf at Buffalo's Inner Harbor about 2 p.m. today. The 157-foot craft will remain in the harbor through the Fourth of July.

It's the final stop today on the grand tour for the Jafarjians, the Williamsville family that decided last summer to visit all 37 branch locations in the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library system within a year. Taking pictures and writing blog entries about each one at operationreadingroadtrip.blogspot.com, they managed to save the best for last -- the Central Library in Lafayette Square. They arrive there at 11:30 a.m.
