Is cheap Walmart gas worth a detour?

I usually fill up at Quik Trip. The prices are low and the stores are nice, clean, and close to other places I shop often. While I won’t drive out of my way to find one if my tank is low, I rarely fill up at stations with more expensive gas. I’ll just put in a couple of gallons and remember to make my way to my local QT for a fill up soon.

If you have to drive very far out of the way, you consume the savings driving to the cheap gas. Sam’s Club used to have the best prices, sometimes 12-14 cents under the local market. When gas was $2-$3 a gallon Sam’s was selling at that level. Now that gas prices are up considerably, they keep the same spread meaning their prices aren’t as low (percentage-wise). Buy where it’s cheapest unless the station is owned by a relative.

I agree with J. A trip to Walmart is never a good idea! I LOVE QT but I generally use the savings offered by Kroger. I fill up when I buy groceries. I use QT if I can’t get to a Kroger or don’t have the points saved up (though usually my Kroger stores and QT locations are near each other). As fas as the out-of-the-way issue, both QT and Kroger are out of my way. I live in a stupid county that can’t seem to figure it out. I am ALWAYS spending my grocery and fuel $ in surrounding counties – I can always find a reason to make the trip.

I have a job that frequently takes me all over Georgia, above the Gnat Line and even sometimes below it. If it’s on my way or right along my path and the price is reasonable in comparison to or relative to other prices along my route then I’ll stop and fill up there.

As a rule, I’ll usually try to avoid filling up inside the Atlanta city limits because gas prices are usually much higher there and they’re usually noticeably higher inside the I-285 Perimeter as well although there are a few exceptions, especially when prices are headed downwards or are in a moderation mode.

I frequent QuikTrips ALOT because there are just so many of them everywhere that I go in the Atlanta Region (though they are few and far between outside of the Atlanta Region), but I also will frequently fill-up at Kroger, RaceTrac, Raceway and BP if I find them to have decent prices and they are along the way for me.

Some places in Georgia above the Gnat Line that I find to frequently have lower prices than surrounding areas when prices are declining or moderating from my extensive travels around the Northern half of Georgia are at the US 80/Eisenhower Parkway exit off I-475 in Macon, in the Buford/Mall of Georgia area usually at the Hwy 20 exits off I-85 and I-985, sometimes in the West Metro Atlanta area close to or near I-20 like off of the Thornton Road exits and in the Douglasville area.

It has almost 73000 miles on it and is free of any major dents or anything…if id didn’t tell you they were there u may not even notice…..Its all stock we have not added any upgrades…We did add options such as…Custom Floor mats , bug deflector, window rain guards, sprayed undercoat, mud flaps, running boards and a Bed mat, it has a cap but doesn’t match the truck very well….I am looking to sell it but i am not sure on whats a good price. KBB Tells me 28000 Excellent 27000 Good and 25000 Fair…The truck is in very good condition and we are looking to get the most out of it. If anybody could give me some advice on what to put it up for please let me know!!! Thank you Ryan

First advice is ignore the “book”. Look around and see what comparable vehicles are being listed for in your area. The “options” you mention don’t really add any value except for a canopy and if it doesn’t match, it won’t add much. It’s a buyers market and has been for quite a while. You won’t be getting top dollar because so many people are trying to sell.
