Here is today's essay by Ralph Sabin of Berea:It was my father's 50th birthday on July 1, 1951. We went to see the Indians play the Detroit Tigers. Bob Feller threw a no-hitter and the Indians won, 2-1. The Tigers scored on a throwing error by Feller. [Many decades] later, while driving a shuttle bus to the airport, I talked to Bob Feller about that game. He remembered every detail. He was an amazing man.
I was also at the game. I was age 8. MY mom, dad and older brother were there. Upper deck, behind first base. No one in the stands had mentioned the no-hitter and I was oblivious to it. When Felelr got the last out, my mother, a big fan, jumped to her feet, screaming, "A no-hitter! A no-hitter! A no-hitter!" She was the first up in our section and one of the first in the stadium to do that, and in seconds tensn of thousands of us were on our feet cheering and clapping.
