Aspen Aerogels Inc., a Northborough-based company which manufactures aerogel insulation principally used by petrochemical and power generation facilities, recently filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to raise up to $115 million in an initial public offering, according to Renaissance Capital LLC. Aspen Aerogels was founded in 2001 and booked $47 million in sales for the year ended March 31. It plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ASPN. Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Morgan Stanley are the lead underwriters on the deal. No pricing terms were disclosed. Susan Costello, owner of Wellness Transformation Inc. in Sherborn, recently purchased Get In Shape For Women in Natick Center from Glen Nazarian of Naz Fitness Inc. Get In Shape For Women Natick is a personalized, small-group personal training and exercise studio for women. It is part of the GISFW franchise based in Needham. It offers weight training, cardio, nutritional support and accountability. Costello is a licensed counselor and certified life and wellness coach who has been in private practice for 30 years. Precision Marketing Group LLC (PMG), a Framingham-based provider of outsourced marketing services for entrepreneurial, B2B organizations, recently announced that its content marketing work has been recognized with four Hermes Creative Awards. PMG received the Platinum Award, the competition’s top honor, for Accent Limo Web copy and for a social media white paper. The firm earned a Gold Award for a white paper on creating memorable webinars that was created for BeaconLive and for a business column written by PMG Principal Maureen Condon for the MetroWest Daily News. The Hermes Creative Awards is an international awards competition that is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Sundin Associates Inc., a Natick-based advertising and marketing agency, has won four Silver Communicator Awards for creative excellence in competition held by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. The Communicator Awards is an annual competition honoring the best in advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for print, video, interactive and audio. Sundin received the Silver awards for creative excellence for the writing and design involved in the "Century in the Villages" 100th anniversary campaign created for its client, The Village Bank in Auburndale.

In preparation, I bought some RA13 (Stuller) alloy, made up some 14KW, and began to fabricate a ring with setting. I was disappointing at the working properties--it seemed harder to solder than the yellow alloys, different surface tension when heated, showing different flow properties to what I am used to (affecting ball making and casting), and the white gold seemed to work harden faster, requiring more annealing steps while drawing and rolling.... I got the project done, but found it more difficult than 14KY. My primary concern is not whiteness, but workability. I can rhodium plate if necessary. I am looking for a good set of white alloys that I can cast and fabricate with, primarily 14KW, and occasional 18K (although how white can 18K be?) I would appreciate knowing if there's a particular favorite choice among you, the readers. I'd prefer Stuller's products, as I do most of my dealings with them, but if they do not have an easier working white, I will go to other metal suppliers... Am located in Canada, and Stuller provides an excellent local outlet service here (order by Friday noon, get on Monday). Other larger USA firms like Hoover and Strong, RIo Grande, etc., do not, to the best of my knowledge. Thanks! Joris JorisArt.
