Friday, June 10 The Long Island Museum presents ‘The Power of Music,’ a photographic exhibition featuring portraits of Americans and their musical instruments from 1860 through 1915, on view June 10-Sept. 4. With the birth of photography in 1839, portraiture became both accessible and affordable for nearly every American. The images in the Power of Music exhibit reflect both the power of photographic portraiture, and the vibrancy of American music of the time, not to mention the great pride and sense of accomplishment clearly visible on the faces of the musicians. They also document a phenomenal outburst of creativity and experimentation in musical instruments and ensemble playing in the U.S. Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the museum is open Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, noon-5 p.m. Regular admission is $9 per person, $7 for seniors and $4 for students ages six to 17. At a much higher resolution does alleviate some of this disappointment, and a closer look reveals a greater variety of animation, more people, and a smoother overall look. RCT2 has a wide variety of new coaster designs, including a few famous coasters from around the world--mostly from theme parks. A welcome addition is the ability to open a separate screen where you can test and build a custom coaster, without worrying about space or money, before buying and placing it in the game. Perhaps the best new addition is the ability to raise and lower ground en masse, removing one of the most annoying features of the first game.
