The Lauthers' home brought more experiences to "Silver Memories Shine On," the theme for the Earth, Wind and Flowers Garden Club's 25th year. Susan Maynard, Melissa Oberlander, Sue Oberlander and Deb Pigman attended as guests.

Some early birds made a walk through Joy Lauthers' extensive gardens and raised beds.

"Silver Melodies: The Beloved Bluebird," was the program for the evening. It was shared by Mary Lee Minor. Using a brochure, she described the materials used by other bird species which can nest in the boxes. Wrens use sticks, tree swallows and bluebirds use grasses but swallows add feathers, chickadees employ moss, and sparrows use everything under the sun. Tufted titmice line the nest with leaves. Robins and bluebirds are thrush family members. Their songs were played from a book which has recorded and charted many birds.

The display on bluebirds included a poster, pictures, patches, and fact sheets on the problems faced by bluebirds. They deal with larvae from the blowfly that attack soft tissue of the young. A hardware cloth shelf at the bottom of the nest box can help avoid wet nests which encourage the flies.

Sparrows also attack and kill eastern bluebirds.

In the educational moments, Bev Sipe shared a documentation of her gardening through photography. She spoke of camera settings, knowing your camera's capabilities and lighting considerations in capturing the best pictures.

The juniors received a summer letter and schedule. The Peas-in-a-Pod Junior Gardeners have been selected as the outstanding junior club in the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. A group will attend the state Convention of the association at Shawnee State Park on July 19.

The adult club had been notified through a letter read by President Shari Main that the club's two-year effort and application had earned 98 points, the highest applicant. The club will receive the award named after the OAGC founder, Victor H. Ries; it is the highest award given by the organization. Members plan to be there July 20 when the award will be presented by the state president, Sharon Ware.

The spring perennial sale summary was given by Kate Rothhaar; Joy Lauthers, treasurer, was cleared to pay those bills and those for the Company's Coming plantings at the Crawford County Fairgrounds.

A Hike for Health donation was sent to the OAGC Foundation to benefit Wahkeena Nature Preserve. Junior gardeners and their parents completed the hiking at the fairgrounds.
