In 1974, Mrs. Albert King, the mother of Martin Luther King Junior was assassinated while playing the organ at a church in Atlanta.

In 1981, Grant Tinker was named president of NBC Television. He took over for the departing Fred Silverman.

In 1985, Yul Brynner left his role as King of Siam in "The King and I" after 46-hundred performances.

In 2000, nine people were trampled to death during a Pearl Jam concert in Roskilde, Denmark.

In 2009, a funeral for late "Charlie's Angels" actress Farrah Fawcett was held on this date in Los Angeles. The 62-year-old star died on June 25th, 2009 after a three-year battle with cancer.
