ARCHIVIST TO SPEAK: Michael Everman, supervising archivist at Missouri State Archives-St. Louis, is the featured speaker for the July 11 St. Clair County Genealogical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. in St. Luke's Parish Hall, 226 N. Church St., Belleville. He will discuss available resources at the archives, online resources and materials available through the St. Louis Circuit Court Historical Records Project. The meeting is open to the public.

SCHOOL DEDICATION: The one-room Shoemaker Schoolhouse will be dedicated as the Monroe County Welcome Center at 10 a.m. July 23 at Stone Arch Park (corner of Gall Road and Illinois 3) in Columbia. It will be open for the public to view. Morning events are free. Tickets for an evening program are on sale for $12 per person at Columbia City Clerk's Office in City Hall.

TRAIN EXCURSIONS: The American Association of Railroaders Inc., a non-profit and historical organization, is sponsoring these train trips this summer:

* Great Illinois Railroad Detour to Chicago: Departs at 7 a.m. July 16 from the St. Louis Amtrak Station. Non-stop travel on the freight only C&EI line to Chicago. Spend a few hours in the Windy City before departing on the Illinois Central line to Champaign and a connection to an express bus that will reach St. Louis at 9:30 p.m. $169 per person.

* Inaugural Columbia Star Daylight Brunch Excursion: Departs at 7 a.m. July 17, from South St. Louis on AAR's 1958 Trailways bus. Additional pickup locations are Kirkwood, 7:20 a.m.; St. Charles, 8 a.m. Bus travels to Columbia, Mo. to board the historic Columbia Star train for a two-hour round trip to Centralia, Mo. Brunch will be served on the rail cruise. $95 per person. Bus returns to St. Louis at 5 p.m.

* East Coast Adventure. Aug. 16-18. Three-day tour begins with a morning flight from St. Louis to Connecticut. The train travels through Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland with free days in New York and Baltimore before a flight home. $945 per person double, $1,095 for a private single.
